Dr. Pim Verhulst

Biography

Pim Verhulst is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow associated with the Editing Beckett Project at the University of Oxford. His research focuses on the relationship between technological media—such as film, radio, and television—and traditional literary genres including poetry, prose, and theatre. He combines diverse methodologies across various theoretical fields, notably adaptation studies, sound media studies, transmedial narratology, and genetic criticism. Verhulst completed his PhD in English Literature at the University of Antwerp in 2014, where he concentrated on Samuel Beckett's radio plays. His postdoctoral research, funded by the European Research Council, involved examining Beckett's prose theatre. His work also engages with prominent authors including James Joyce, Dylan Thomas, Harold Pinter, and others. He has contributed published chapters and co-edited works in journals such as Genetic Joyce Studies and the Harold Pinter Review. Beyond his editorial work with the Beckett Digital Manuscript Project, Verhulst's recent research at Oxford, supported by AHRC, revolves around Beckett’s Television Plays and their intermediality in British postwar theatre. His contributions to the digital humanities and textual scholarship are recognized through various fellowships and awards.
