Biography

Pinar Oruc joined the University of Manchester in 2021 as a Lecturer in Commercial Law. Her research focuses on intellectual property law, particularly copyright, the intersection of technology, cultural property law, art law, and Indigenous rights. She co-directs the Manchester Centre for Law and Business and has significant experience in teaching intellectual property law across various institutions, including Queen Mary University of London, University College London, and the University of Essex. Pinar completed her PhD on copyright law and cultural heritage at Queen Mary University of London, supported by the Herchel Smith Intellectual Property PhD Scholarship, and holds an LLM in International Commercial Law from Cardiff University and a BA in Law from Koc University. In 2020, Pinar served as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the UK Copyright and Creative Economy Centre (CREATe) at the University of Glasgow, focusing on the H2020 project ‘reCreating Europe: Rethinking digital copyright law for a culturally diverse, accessible, creative Europe’. She has authored a monograph titled 'Digitising Cultural Heritage: Clashes in Copyright Law,' published by Hart Publishing in July 2025 as an Open Access title.
