Biography

Pinchas Cohen, MD, is a professor and Vice Chair of Research at the USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology. He previously held a faculty position at the University of Pennsylvania from 1992 to 1999. In 2012, he became the Co-Director of the UCSD/UCLA Diabetes Research Center and has served as the Executive Director of the Ethel Percy Andrus Gerontology Center since the same year. He has notable research interests in aging, diabetes, neurodegeneration, and cancer, focusing on mitochondrial-derived peptides. Cohen's work includes pioneering investigations of humanin, MOTS-c, and SHLP2, with the aim of identifying novel therapeutic and diagnostic targets in aging and diabetes-related diseases. Additionally, he holds patents for novel peptides and has contributed to numerous publications in the field.
