Biography

Piotr Kozlowski is an Associate Member in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of British Columbia and a Professor in the Departments of Radiology and Urologic Sciences. His research focuses on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), specifically developing MRI-based technologies for studying animal models of human diseases. Dr. Kozlowski has been instrumental in examining tumor microenvironments using MRI techniques to analyze tumor blood flow, architecture, vasculature, and tissue oxygen levels. Additionally, he works on high-resolution imaging of spinal cord injuries and is currently developing specialized RF coils to improve image quality in monitoring myelin changes due to rat spinal cord injuries. His work also extends to prostate cancer diagnosis, where he is advancing novel MRI diagnostic techniques that utilize both Diffusion MRI and Contrast Enhanced Dynamic MRI to accurately diagnose the staging of prostate cancer. His projects often involve collaboration with patients and volunteers and are conducted at the UBC MRI Research Centre, utilizing a 3T human MRI scanner.
