Biography

Dr. Piotr Witkowski is a dedicated transplant surgeon specializing in kidney and pancreas transplantation. With a profound commitment to optimizing pancreatic islet transplantation, he has focused his efforts on translational research that aims to enhance clinical practices. Over the course of 15 years, he has dedicated himself to developing innovative technologies and procedures that promote superior blood glucose control and provide patients with the freedom from insulin dependence. His research further explores reducing the need for toxic anti-rejection medications and achieving immunologic tolerance. Dr. Witkowski has been instrumental in advancing groundbreaking cellular therapies, particularly the development of ex-vivo expanded T regulatory cells (Tregs), which hold promise not only for transplant patients but also for individuals with autoimmune disorders such as type 1 diabetes, Crohn's disease, multiple sclerosis, and rheumatoid arthritis. Under his direction, multiple clinical trials are currently underway, pushing the boundaries of medical science to offer transformative solutions for patients facing complex health challenges.
