Dr. Pooja Agrawal

Biography

Pooja Agrawal is an Associate Professor at Yale School of Medicine, specializing in Emergency Medicine and Global Health, with a specific focus on refugees and displaced populations. Her research concentrates on utilizing field methodologies to study issues specific to forced migration and implementing sustainable interventions to address the challenges faced by these populations. Dr. Agrawal collaborates with international, national, and local community partners to investigate the physical and mental health impacts of displacement on resettled populations, creating effective programs to aid the resettlement process. She assesses health literacy, healthcare insurance access, and investigates long-term health outcomes for refugees. Dr. Agrawal holds several leadership roles, including Past-President of the Academy for Women in Academic Emergency Medicine and a board member of Integrated Refugee Immigrant Services (IRIS) in New Haven. She has developed a community-based research program aimed at improving the linkage between refugees and community health and social services. Dr. Agrawal graduated from Cornell University, received her MD from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, and completed her residency in Emergency Medicine at Harvard-affiliated hospitals. She also holds an MPH from Harvard School of Public Health and completed a fellowship in Global Health and International Emergency Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
