Dr. Pooja Khatri

Biography

Pooja Khatri, MD, MS, is the chair of the Department of Neurology at Yale School of Medicine and chief of Neurology at Yale New Haven Hospital. She is internationally recognized as an expert in stroke care and research. Having transitioned from the University of Cincinnati, where she served as vice chair for research in the Department of Neurology and Rehabilitation Medicine, Dr. Khatri plays a pivotal role in stroke research and care. She co-directed the National Coordinating Center of the NIH StrokeNet, facilitating multicenter stroke trials across the U.S. with over 15,000 participants. Her groundbreaking work demonstrates significant advancements in acute stroke therapy and prevention of early recurrence, influencing clinical guidelines. Dr. Khatri holds numerous leadership roles, including positions with the World Stroke Organization and the American Heart Association. She is also an associate editor for the Stroke Journal and has authored 300 publications, earning recognition as a top 1% Highly Cited Researcher. Her commitment to education includes leading training programs in stroke research and mentorship for clinical trials. Pooja became interested in medicine early in life, motivated by her experiences and family background, which shaped her career path to improve neurological health outcomes.
