Biography

Pooja Maney is a Professor at UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry in the Department of Periodontics and Dental Hygiene, appointed in fall 2022. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, specializing in dental implant surgery. Dr. Maney is actively involved in clinical and didactic teaching of predoctoral students and periodontics residents. From 2009 to 2018, she taught at LSUHSC School of Dentistry in New Orleans, where she also served as the director of the Advanced Education Program in Periodontology from 2018 to 2022. In 2016, she received the American Academy of Periodontology Educator Award. Her research interests include the pathogenesis of periodontitis, genetic factors related to periodontal diseases, and dental implants. Dr. Maney's doctoral studies explored the correlation of single nucleotide polymorphisms with neutrophil responses in young African American patients affected by aggressive periodontitis. She has been a pivotal investigator in numerous clinical studies on dental implants and has mentored many residents specializing in periodontics. Dr. Maney has published several peer-reviewed articles and has presented research at national and international conferences, as well as serving as a reviewer for respected scientific journals, including the Journal of Periodontology.
