Dr. Pooyan Kazemian

Biography

Pooyan Kazemian is an Assistant Professor at the Rady School of Management at the University of California, San Diego. His research focuses on the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and data-driven optimization, particularly in the context of healthcare management applications. Kazemian's work addresses critical issues related to healthcare operations, medical decision making, and health policy, with the aim of improving the quality of care, access to care, and health outcomes while reducing costs. He is particularly interested in innovative applications of deep learning and AI to enhance the operational facets of healthcare delivery and support complex medical policy decisions. His research also involves developing novel methods for trustless and verifiable AI, utilizing advanced cryptographic techniques and zero-knowledge proofs to improve the security and reliability of medical AI tools. His findings have been published in esteemed journals such as Management Science, Production Operations Management, and JAMA Internal Medicine, and have garnered attention from major media outlets like NPR and Yahoo Finance. Prior to joining UC San Diego, Kazemian was a faculty member at Case Western Reserve University and Harvard Medical School, and he holds a Ph.D. in Industrial Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan.
