Biography

Poshak Gandhi researches extreme time-domain astrophysics with an emphasis on multiwavelength observations of black holes. His studies have established a connection between accretion and the extreme obscuration of supermassive black holes at the centers of massive galaxies, exploring causal links between accretion outflows and relativistic astrophysical jets. Professor Gandhi hails from New Delhi and has worked in Chile (European Southern Observatory) and Japan (RIKEN/JAXA). He completed his doctorate in X-ray astronomy at the Institute of Astronomy, University of Cambridge, focusing on connecting the high-energy regime with infrared and optical observations. His projects emphasize big data time-domain mining and analysis using facilities such as the James Webb Space Telescope, LSST, NuSTAR, AstroSat, and Gaia. He has been a principal investigator and an affiliate principal investigator on major observational projects and has details of his research along with PhD opportunities listed on his personal homepage. He is active on Twitter and engages with the astronomical community through various platforms.
