Biography

Poul Nielsen is a Professor and Associate Dean of Education at the University of Southern Denmark. He obtained his Cand. Scient. in Chemistry and Biology from the University of Odense in 1994 and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the same university in 1998. His academic career began at the Chemical Institute of SDU, where he served as an Assistant Professor from 1998 to 2001, then as an Associate Professor from 2001 to 2008. He has been a Professor in the Department of Physics and Chemistry at SDU since July 2008. Throughout his career, Nielsen has engaged in research stays at the University of Liverpool in the UK in 1997 and at the Scripps Research Institute in the USA in 2006. He has numerous research interests, specifically in nucleic acid chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and synthetic organic chemistry. He is also actively involved in various research projects dealing with topics like chemical optimization and resistance in antibacterial activity. In addition to his research work, Nielsen participates in academic conferences and peer reviews manuscripts. He has been an influential figure within his department and exemplifies dedication to advancing educational initiatives in the sciences.
