Biography

Pouya Rezai is a professional engineer (PEng) and Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Lassonde School of Engineering, York University. He specializes in microfluidics and Lab-on-Chip (LoC) technologies. He holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering, an MSc in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Microsystems Technology, and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Bio-Microfluidics, obtained in Iran, Sweden, and Canada, respectively. As the director of the Advanced Center Microfluidic Technology Engineering (ACµTE), Dr. Rezai has also served as the founding Graduate Program Director of the Department of Mechanical Engineering from 2013 to 2022 and as the Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering (CSME) bulletin from 2017 to 2022. His independent research has garnered substantial external funding and has led to the training of highly qualified personnel, filing of patents, and publication of numerous book chapters and articles in top-tier journals. His research group has developed innovative technologies aimed at enhancing the quality of life through advanced medical, food safety, and water monitoring applications. Current research interests include the development of micro-electro-mechanical sensors, LoC devices for investigating sensory-motor responses in disease model organisms, and platforms for the multiplexed detection of microorganisms and contaminants.
