Dr. Pouya Rezai

Biography

Pouya Rezai is a professional engineer and a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at York University. He is a CSME Fellow and has been recognized with multiple awards including the CSME IW Smith and ERA. Rezai's research is focused on microfluidics and Lab-on-Chips (LoC), with an emphasis on developing technologies that improve human health and safety applications. He has a diverse academic background having obtained his degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Microsystems Technology across Iran, Sweden, and Canada. Dr. Rezai has served as the Graduate Program Director for the Department of Mechanical Engineering at York University from 2013 to 2022 and has significantly contributed to the field through substantial external funding, publications in top-tier journals, and numerous peer-reviewed papers presented at prestigious international conferences. His research group is also noted for its collaborations with industry and academia across countries, including ongoing projects in China and Kuwait. Dr. Rezai has directed research that includes the development of micro-electro-mechanical sensors for LoC devices, investigation of sensory-motor responses in disease model organisms, and the creation of platforms for sorting and detecting microorganisms and pollutants in fluidic samples.
