Dr. Prabitha Urwyler

Biography

Prabitha Urwyler holds a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science & Engineering from Mangalore University, India (1995), an M.Sc in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Bern (2008), and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Basel and the Paul Scherrer Institute. She has been a Venia Docenti at the University of Bern. Her professional experience includes roles as a software engineer at Melstar Information Technologies Ltd, India, and as a researcher with the Swiss News Agency (SDA – ATS) in Switzerland. Prabitha's PhD research focused on the fabrication, characterization, and application of disposable micro-cantilevers for biomedical applications. Following her PhD, she continued her research with a postdoc position at the Biomaterials Science Center, University of Basel, and later at the University Hospital Psychiatry Bern until 2021, where she served as a senior researcher and deputy group head in the Gerontechnology Rehabilitation group at the ARTORG Center, University of Bern. Her interdisciplinary research encompasses a wide range of biomedical fields, including nanotechnology, biosensors, biomaterials, implant surfaces characterization, micro/nanofabrication, neuroscience, psychiatry, neurodegenerative diseases, gerontechnology, ambient assisted living, and telehealth rehabilitation. Currently, she works as a scientific officer and program manager for bilateral cooperation at Innosuisse (Swiss Innovation Agency).
