Biography

Pradeep Chhibber studies political parties, party systems, representation, and politics in South Asia. He holds the Indo-American Community Chair in India Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. His research interests include Political Parties, Party Systems, Electoral Politics, and Representation. He has published several notable works including 'Righteous Demagogues: Populist Politics in South Asia' (2024) co-authored with Adnan Naseemullah, 'India Conversations with Generation Leaders' (2020) with Harsh Shah, and 'Ideology and Identity: Changing Party Systems of India' (2018) with Rahul Verma. Additionally, he co-authored 'Religious Practice and Democracy in India' (2014) and 'Formation of National Party Systems: Federalism and Party Competition in Britain, Canada, India, and the U.S.' (2004) with Ken Kollman. His earlier work includes 'Democracy and Associations: Transformation of Party Systems and Social Cleavages in India' published by the University of Michigan Press. Pradeep obtained his M.A. and M.Phil from the University of Delhi and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles.
