Biography

Pragasen Pillay is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Concordia University. He holds a Ph.D. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, attained in 1987, as well as an MSc and B.Eng from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal obtained in 1983 and 1981 respectively. Dr. Pillay is an NSERC Chairholder and his research areas focus on electric machines and drives, electric vehicles, and renewable energy technologies. His professional interests extend to the modeling, analysis, design, and control of electric machines and motor drive systems, particularly in relation to traction motors for hybrid electric vehicles. Additionally, he is engaged in renewable energy sectors, including wind, biomass, and solar energy, as well as issues concerning energy storage, efficiency, conservation, and sustainability within the broader scope of power and energy engineering.
