Prakash Ramachandran is a Clinician Scientist and Honorary Consultant Hepatologist at the Centre for Inflammation Research. His research focuses on immune regulation and organ fibrosis, specifically in understanding the role of innate immune systems in liver fibrosis and resolution related to chronic injury. He graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Pharmacology from the University of Edinburgh in 2003 before completing a PhD under the Wellcome Trust at the MRC Centre for Inflammation Research. Ramachandran's work has highlighted the importance of macrophages in tissue scarring, demonstrating the complexity of their heterogeneity and the need for targeted therapeutic approaches to modulate their functions. His groundbreaking research has led to the identification of novel populations of pathogenic macrophages within fibrotic liver tissues and he is actively engaged in developing strategies to inhibit macrophage activity to reduce fibrosis. Over the years, he has received several prestigious awards, including the Emerging Leader Award from the European Association for the Study of the Liver and the Sir Francis Avery Jones Research Medal from the British Society of Gastroenterology among others.
