Biography

Dr. Prashant Saxena is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow in the James Watt School of Engineering, a position he has held since 2024. He previously served as a Lecturer at the same university from 2018 to 2024, and as an Assistant Professor in Mechanical Aerospace Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad from 2015 to 2018. He completed postdoctoral research at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland from 2014 to 2015 and at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany from 2012 to 2014. Dr. Saxena holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Glasgow (2012) and a Master of Technology in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (2009). His research interests focus on investigating soft solids and structures experiencing extreme deformation, with current work on smart composites and multi-physics coupling of electro-mechanical and magneto-mechanical systems. He employs mathematical and computational tools such as nonlinear solid mechanics and continuum mechanics to develop a deeper understanding of the mechanics involved. Dr. Saxena has received various prestigious awards, including the New Investigator Award from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council in 2021 and the Ramanujan Fellowship from the Science Engineering Research Board of India from 2015 to 2018.
