Primus M. Tazanu holds a PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of Freiburg, Germany, obtained in 2011. He completed his Master's in Development International Relations at the University of Aalborg, Denmark in 2004. From 2015 to 2017, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Wits Centre for Diversity Studies at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. Tazanu has lectured at several universities, including in Buea (Cameroon), Basel (Switzerland), and Freiburg. His research focuses on social practices, the production of meanings, and media technologies, exploring new and transnational relationships, alongside themes of media, Pentecostalism, and media racism. He is particularly interested in how liveness in media affects sociality, sensory experiences, and the expectations and distanciations that arise from mediated communication, particularly in the context of smartphones and electronic identities. His work on Pentecostalism investigates the mediatization of Christian beliefs and practices in Cameroon, along with concerns about online racism and critical discussions around philosophical anthropology, freedom, decoloniality, and social justice.
