Dr. Priti Kumar

Biography

Priti Kumar is an Associate Professor in the Department of Infectious Diseases at Yale University School of Medicine. She completed her PhD in Immunology at the Indian Institute of Science in 2002 and pursued postdoctoral studies at Harvard Medical School. Since joining Yale in 2008, her research has focused on pioneering treatment strategies for diseases caused by RNA viruses, utilizing innovative gene therapy approaches. Dr. Kumar's lab is acclaimed for its studies on the pathogenesis of HIV-1, particularly through the development of advanced humanized mouse models that mirror human immune responses. Her research has led to significant findings in RNA interference and transvascular delivery methods for treating flaviviral infections. Dr. Kumar is actively involved in various committees and initiatives, including directing the Graduate Admissions for the Biological and Biomedical Sciences and serving as a Chartered Member of the NIH Study Section on AIDS Discovery and Development Therapeutics. She has authored numerous influential papers in peer-reviewed journals and continues to contribute to advancements in molecular targeted therapies and gene delivery systems.
