Biography

Priya Urs is a public international lawyer and Junior Research Fellow at St John's College, Oxford. She holds a PhD in Law from University College London and a Master of Law from the University of Cambridge, where she received the David Thompson Prize from Homerton College. Additionally, she earned an integrated Bachelor of Arts and Law from the National Law School of India University. Her previous roles include a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the Oxford Institute for Ethics, Law and Armed Conflict, and research fellowships at the Max Planck Foundation for International Peace and the Rule of Law. She has collaborated closely with the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission to enhance its role in investigating international crimes in Afghanistan. Priya's research interests encompass public international law, particularly international criminal law, laws governing the use of force, international humanitarian law, and the functioning of international courts. Her research currently focuses on states' erga omnes obligations, as well as the legal implications of cyber operations targeting healthcare. She is an editorial board member of the Leiden Journal of International Law and a contributing editor for the CIL Dialogues, an online platform from the Centre for International Law at the National University of Singapore. Priya's teaching includes courses on public international law and international law in armed conflict, along with supervising advanced research students.
