Dr. Priya Vashishta

Biography

Priya Vashishta is a Professor in Materials Science, Computer Science, and Physics Astronomy at the University of Southern California (USC), where he directs the Collaboratory for Advanced Computing Simulations. He has edited or co-edited 11 books and authored or co-authored over 390 papers focusing on high-performance computing, computer-aided design of high-temperature materials, and multi-million atom simulations of materials and devices. Vashishta's research team explores the effects of extreme conditions on everyday materials, leading to the development of newer and better-designed products, including components that are more resistant to corrosion and oxidation. His work also emphasizes nanoscale processing techniques to reduce brittle fracturing in ceramic materials and to innovate electronic devices. His team has developed unique simulation algorithms and software, allowing for large-scale molecular dynamics simulations and immersive visualization of billions of atoms. Vashishta is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and is committed to educating and mentoring students from underrepresented groups through organizing annual computational science workshops for undergraduates.
