Dr. Priyanthy Weerasekera

Biography

Priyanthy Weerasekera is a Professor Emeritus and Director of Psychotherapy Training e-Resources (PTeR) in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster University. With a focus on advancing psychotherapy education, she has developed a comprehensive psychotherapy website utilized by academic institutions and mental health professionals worldwide. Dr. Weerasekera has previously held the position of Postgraduate Psychotherapy Coordinator at McMaster University, demonstrating her commitment to improving training and resources in psychotherapy. She earned her Honours Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and her Medical Doctor (MD) from McMaster University, as well as a Master of Education from Harvard University. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, having completed her postgraduate training and residency in Psychiatry at McMaster University. In her career, Dr. Weerasekera has contributed significantly to the field of psychiatry and behavioral sciences through her academic work and leadership.
