He became a full professor in 2005 and was given a courtesy appointment in mechanical engineering in 2010. He has held visiting positions at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Professor Yeung is a world-class expert in direct numerical simulations of turbulent fluid flow, with a particular interest in intermittency, mixing, and dispersion, and the development of massively parallel computational algorithms that allow for simulations at unprecedented scales. His research has been supported by several major organizations, including the National Science Foundation and the Department of Energy. He has given invited lectures and participated in extensive research visits in several countries, including Germany, India, Israel, Japan, Australia, and the United Kingdom. As of early 2019, his work has been cited over 3,500 times, and he has an h-index of 36. He has also served as a reviewer for archival journals and funding agencies and was involved in advisory bodies for NSF. Additionally, he was the chair of the local organizing committee for the 71st Annual Meeting of the Division of Fluid Dynamics of the American Physical Society in 2018, and he has worked with the American Association for Advancement of Science to offer summer internships to undergraduate students with disabilities.
