Puneet Plaha is an Associate Professor and Consultant Neuro-oncology Surgeon at the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences, University of Oxford. He specializes in brain tumors, particularly focusing on endoscopic minimally invasive surgery and awake surgery techniques. He qualified in Medicine from JIPMER, Pondicherry University in India in 1996 and completed his Master’s degree in Surgery in 2000. Puneet undertook his MD degree at Bristol in 2011 and completed a neurosurgical training program as part of the South West rotation between Bristol and Plymouth from 2005 to 2010, followed by a year-long Endoscopic Pituitary Fellowship and a Skull Base Fellowship at Oxford. Since August 2012, he has served as the Clinical Lead for the Oxford Brain MDT and Neuro-oncology Lead for Thames Valley. His research interests are centered around setting up novel clinical trials for brain tumors, advanced brain imaging, and using novel intraoperative technology to minimize morbidity related to brain tumor surgeries. He is the Chief Investigator for several national multicentre trials, including the NIHR FUTURE-GB trial, which looks at glioblastoma management, and is committed to improving surgical outcomes while reducing patient morbidity through minimally invasive techniques. His work aims to identify and understand the transition zones of gliomas surrounding normal brain tissues for patients undergoing awake surgery, utilizing DTI and fMRI imaging techniques for optimal surgical planning.
