Biography

Qi Fang is a passionate medical physicist and engineer dedicated to the development of novel imaging techniques for cancer detection. Having completed his PhD in Physics in 2017 at the University of Western Australia, he focused on innovative imaging tools to facilitate complete cancer removal surgeries for breast cancer patients. Fang is a member of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration and was honored with the 2016 Special Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics for his contributions, sharing a $3,000,000 prize. His research has led to the commercialization of cancer imaging probes through a local startup, OncoRes Medical, and he is the inventor of multiple international patents aimed at developing next-generation cancer imaging devices. These innovations promise to improve access to optimal cancer treatment in rural and remote areas of Australia. In recognition of his contributions, he was highlighted as one of Australia’s top 40 researchers in 2019 and received the Investigator Initiated Research Scheme Grant from the National Breast Cancer Foundation in 2021. Additionally, he has been awarded several prestigious grants including the Raine Robson Fellowship in 2021.
