Biography

Qi Wang is an Associate Professor in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication at the Georgia Institute of Technology. His research interests encompass East Asian cinema, including Chinese, Japanese, and Korean languages, as well as French cinema. Wang focuses on various themes such as colonialism, post-colonial studies, film literary theory, aesthetics, and art history. He authored the book 'Memory, Subjectivity and Independent Chinese Cinema,' published by Edinburgh University Press in 2014, which provides a historically informed examination of independent films made in China from 1990 to 2010. Currently, he is working on a book project that explores the poetics of space in East Asian cinema and conducts comparative studies of Japanese and French cinemas. Wang has contributed articles to several journals, including 'Positions: Asia Critique' and 'Asian Cinema.' He also participated in curatorial activities such as the REEL CHINA Documentary Biennial in New York and Shanghai and the Independent Chinese Cinema series at the High Museum in Atlanta.
