Biography

Qian Yang is an Assistant Professor in Information Science at Cornell University, focusing on human-AI interaction and design. Yang's research centers on creating novel AI applications and services that connect cutting-edge AI technologies with user needs to promote societal betterment. Yang is also a co-director of the Cornell Digital AI Literacy Initiative alongside Natalie Bazarova and is a senior fellow at the Cornell Brooks School Tech Policy Institute. Yang completed a Ph.D. in human-computer interaction at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Computer Science, and holds master’s degrees in HCI design from Carnegie Mellon University and a bachelor's degree in engineering industrial design from Shanghai Jiaotong University. Before academia, Yang worked in the design consultancy industry from 2007 to 2014 and has received several awards for work in both academic and industry contexts, including the Schmidt Futures' Inaugural AI2050 Fellowship.
