Biography

Qian Yuan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geology and Geophysics at Texas A&M University. He received his PhD in Geodynamics from Arizona State University in 2022 and was previously an O.K. Earl Postdoctoral Fellow at Caltech. Qian leads the IMPACT lab, which focuses on Intelligent Modeling of Planetary Accretion, Convection, and Tectonics. His research is interdisciplinary, utilizing high-performance computing, machine learning, and thermodynamics to address the central question of what makes a planet habitable. His interests include data-driven physics-based machine learning, computational fluid dynamics, planetary geodynamics, and Earth's interior surface processes. Qian's work contributes significantly to our understanding of planetary habitability. He has also been recognized as a Top Reviewer for the Geological Society journal. Qian is actively looking for motivated students and postdocs to join his research group.
