Biography

Qiang Chang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Genetics and Neurology at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, where he also serves as the Director of the Waisman Center. His research primarily focuses on neurodevelopmental diseases, with a notable emphasis on Rett Syndrome. His laboratory employs gene targeting in mouse embryonic stem cells to generate genetically engineered mouse lines that serve as animal models for human diseases. This approach facilitates the investigation of molecular mechanisms underlying various diseases in vivo. Additionally, Dr. Chang's lab is beginning to explore the role of DNA methylation-dependent epigenetic regulatory mechanisms in adult neurogenesis. He has generated disease-specific induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells from RTT patients, aiming to create a tissue culture-based human model for better understanding the pathogenesis and for drug screening related to this condition.
