Biography

Qiang Fu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of British Columbia. He has obtained a Ph.D. in Sociology from Duke University, along with degrees in Demography from Peking University and Computer Science from Jinan University. His research interests center on City & Community, Social Interactions, Chinese Societies, Demography, Social Capital, and Computational Sociology. He investigates the everyday experiences related to social dynamics within urban spaces and the impact of institutional logics on power relations in society. Fu employs multidisciplinary approaches, incorporating methods from health studies and social capital analysis to develop new models for understanding demographic trends and social phenomena. In addition to academic research, he is actively involved in mentorship and has served at various levels within the Canadian Sociological Association. His professional contributions also include co-directing the Centre for Chinese Research at UBC. Fu has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in prestigious journals, demonstrating his significant contributions to the field.
