Biography

Qiang Sun is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Statistical Sciences and the Department of Computer Science at the University of Toronto. He leads the StatsLE (Statistics, Learning, Engineering) Lab and has a strong focus on efficient generative AI (GenAI) and trustworthy AI, as well as the foundational aspects of next-generation statistics. His research interests are motivated by challenges in the industrial sector, and include topics such as ensemble learning, transfer learning, and reinforcement learning, with applications in artificial intelligence technologies, finance, and science. Additionally, he serves as an associate editor for the Electronic Journal Statistics (EJS) and is an area chair for machine learning conferences including AISTATS, COLT, and UAI. Previously, he held the position of associate research scholar at Princeton University. He obtained his PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and holds a BS from the University of Science and Technology of China.
