Biography

Qilei Song is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London and a principal investigator at the Barrer Centre. His research group, the Functional Membranes Energy Materials Group, focuses on the development of porous materials and membrane technologies with broad applications including molecular separations, catalysis, and energy conversion and storage. Dr. Song received his PhD from the Cavendish Laboratory at the University of Cambridge in 2014, after which he served as a Research Associate before joining Imperial College as a Junior Research Fellow. His recent accolades include the IChemE Nicklin Medal and the prestigious ERC Starting Grant in 2019, which supports his work on new membrane materials for energy applications. He is also a co-investigator on a £9M EPSRC Programme Grant called SynHiSel. His research involves collaborations with industrial partners such as BP-ICAM, Shell, Toyota Motor Europe, and Schlumberger, focusing on advanced battery materials, heterogeneous catalysis, and clean energy applications.
