Biography

QiLiang "Q" Chen is a pain management anesthesiologist and system neuroscientist at Stanford University and the VA Palo Alto Healthcare System. His clinical practice focuses on the treatment of complex chronic pain disorders, including headaches, migraines, orofacial pain, and chronic post-traumatic pain. He received undergraduate degrees in chemistry and clinical laboratory science from the University of Wisconsin - Madison, followed by an MD and PhD in Neuroscience from Oregon Health & Science University. Dr. Chen's research aims to understand the plasticity of pain-modulating circuits and the mechanisms underlying pathological pain states. His work investigates the role of endogenous opioids in chronic pain associated with brain injury, a topic particularly relevant for those suffering from chronic post-traumatic pain. Additionally, he is exploring advanced imaging-guided pain interventions to treat complex headache and craniofacial pain.
