Biography

Qiming Wang is an Associate Professor at the Sonny Astani Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Southern California. He earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Duke University in 2014 and previously served as a postdoctoral associate in Mechanical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 2014 to 2015. His research focuses on bioinspired manufacturing mechanics, exploring advanced materials and structures to address significant engineering challenges in civil and environmental engineering. His group integrates experiments, theories, and computations to study cutting-edge problems in fields such as Advanced Manufacturing and Solid Mechanics. Wang's recent initiatives include developing adaptive materials that respond constructively to environmental stressors, creating engineered living materials for next-generation infrastructure, and designing carbon-negative materials that effectively remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. He has received numerous awards for his contributions to the field, including the EMI Leonardo Da Vinci Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers in 2022 and the NSF CAREER Award in 2020.
