Biography

Qiming Wang is an Associate Professor endowed with the Stephen Schrank Early Career Chair at the Sonny Astani Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Southern California. Prior to his current role, he was a postdoctoral associate in Mechanical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 2014 to 2015 after earning his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Duke University in 2014. His research primarily focuses on bioinspired manufacturing mechanics and aims to address significant challenges in civil and environmental engineering by improving infrastructure resilience and innovating ways to sequester carbon dioxide and process plastic waste. Wang has received numerous accolades for his contributions to research and engineering, including the EMI Leonardo Da Vinci Award in 2022 and the NSF CAREER Award in 2020. In addition to his research, he serves in several leadership roles within the ASME technical committee on mechanics of soft materials, advancing the field through his editorial and committee work.
