Biography

Professor Cao received his B.S. degree in 2004 from Nanjing University and his Ph.D. in 2009 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He worked at IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center as a research scientist for 9 years before returning to the University of Illinois as an Associate Professor of Materials Science and Engineering. He is also an Affiliate in the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Electrical Engineering. His research interests lie in advanced materials for electronics and optoelectronics. The Cao group aims to exploit new materials processing techniques to develop novel electronic and optoelectronic devices that exhibit enhanced performance and functionality in custom form factors. The group's projects include high-performance, extremely scaled devices for future technology nodes, low-cost printed electronics, macroelectronics, and energy harvesting. These efforts are highly multidisciplinary, requiring a combination of expertise in materials science, chemistry, electrical engineering, and device physics.
