Biography

Qing Zhao received his BSc degree in control engineering from Northeastern University (NEU) in Shenyang, China, and completed his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Western Ontario, now known as Western University, in London, Ontario, Canada. He joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Alberta in September 2000 and has held the position of professor since then. Dr. Zhao has been awarded several international fellowships, including the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship for Experienced Researchers, which allowed him to serve as a visiting professor in Germany. His research interests include fault detection diagnosis, fault tolerant control, robust optimal control, signal processing, industrial data analytics, and UAV control estimation. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the IEEE, and has served on various technical and professional committees. His current research projects focus on data-rich environments for monitoring and diagnostics in industrial settings, as well as fault detection in networked systems. He has actively recruited MSc and PhD students with a strong interest in controls and data analysis. Dr. Zhao has published extensively in these fields and maintains a presence on various academic platforms.
