Qingling Duan is an Associate Professor, jointly appointed in the Department of Biomedical & Molecular Sciences and the School of Computing at Queen’s University. She completed her postdoctoral training in genomics and bioinformatics at the Channing Division of Network Medicine, affiliated with Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. Dr. Duan holds a Ph.D. in Human Genetics and a B.Sc. in Biology from McGill University in Montreal. Her primary research focus is on identifying genetic factors that regulate multifactorial traits in human populations, particularly in relation to chronic diseases and variable responses to common drug therapies. For example, she has identified DNA sequence variations that predispose individuals to adverse drug reactions associated with hypertension medications, as well as susceptibilities to cardio-respiratory diseases and genes that determine the efficacy of asthma medications through the analysis of genomic data in families and case-control populations. Dr. Duan has received the Queen’s National Scholar Award in recognition of her expertise in Bioinformatics and is supported by funding from the Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR), Queen’s University, the National Institute of Health, and the Pharmacogenomics Network. Her publications are featured in prestigious journals such as the American Journal of Human Genetics, the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, and the Pharmacogenomics Journal.
