Biography

Qingyang Kong obtained a BSc in Biological Sciences from Jilin University, China, where he undertook a broad range of courses in fields such as Microbiology, Cell Biology, Immunology, Physiology, and Genetics. In his final year, he worked on a project isolating bacteria from hot springs at Changbai Mountain. He then pursued an MSc in Biomedical Molecular Science at King's College London, where he validated herbal formulae and studied their potential anti-inflammatory and fibrotic activities. Following some experience in marketing and sales, he returned to academia at UCL's Department of Renal Medicine as a PhD student, focusing on the kidney cortical matrix. His research involved characterizing the tubulointerstitial matrix of the human kidney cortex and studying how renal cells interact with this matrix, utilizing techniques such as mass spectrometry and cell culture. In addition to his research on the kidney, he is part of the Bladder Infection Immunity Group, aiming to enhance understanding of bladder microbiome changes in chronic infections, while acquiring a diverse skill set in analysis and experimental techniques.
