Biography

Professor Chen received her doctorate in accounting from Queen's University. Prior to joining the University of Ottawa, she was an assistant professor at the Sprott School of Business, Carleton University. Her research examines market reactions to accounting disclosures, the economic implications of accounting standards, and the role of accounting information in decision making. She has also focused on accounting disclosures in the nonprofit sector, small business debt financing, and auditing accounting history. Currently, Professor Chen's research interests cover a wide variety of accounting topics, including environmental and social governance (ESG) issues, financial disclosures, cost management, and behavioral accounting. She has published her research in several peer-reviewed journals, such as Contemporary Accounting Research, Accounting, Organizations and Society, Corporate Governance: International Review, and the Journal of Small Business Management. Additionally, she acknowledges the importance of engaging with the practitioner community by publishing in professional journals and presenting her work at meetings organized by the Accounting Standards Oversight Council.
