Biography

Dr. Qiuyan Yuan is a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Manitoba. He obtained his PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Manitoba in 2012, and a Bachelor of Science in Food Science Engineering from Beijing Agricultural University in 1992. His primary research area involves wastewater treatment, focusing on nutrient removal and recovery. Dr. Yuan is particularly interested in the technological implementation of biological phosphorus removal and chemical phosphorus recovery, as well as leachate treatment, biomass fermentation, and anaerobic digestion. His goal is to develop sustainable technologies for water and waste treatment processes to reduce environmental burdens, carbon footprints, and greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, he is dedicated to promoting environmental awareness through community outreach. Dr. Yuan is currently seeking MSc and PhD students who are open-minded, innovative, and passionate about research topics related to wastewater and solid waste treatment.
