Biography

Quanling Deng, originally from Hunan, China, moved to the United States to study mathematics and graduated with a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Wyoming in May 2016. In October 2016, he joined Curtin University as a research associate in the Department of Applied Geology. Deng has participated as a visiting scholar at multiple institutions including INRIA in Paris, France, AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, Poland, and École des Ponts ParisTech in Paris, France. He became a visiting assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in March 2020. In February 2022, he transitioned to the Australian National University as a lecturer within the School of Computing. His research focuses on applied mathematics and applied machine learning with special interests in topics such as sea ice floe dynamics, ocean-atmosphere interactions, and deep neural networks.
