Biography

Qunshan Zhao joined the University of Glasgow in May 2019 as a Lecturer in Urban Analytics within the Urban Studies and Urban Big Data Centre. In August 2022, he was promoted to Senior Lecturer and then to Professor in August 2024. He holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Geography/GIScience from Arizona State University, along with a B.E. in Remote Sensing, Photogrammetry, and GIS from Wuhan University. Prior to his tenure in the UK, he worked as a postdoctoral research associate at the Spatial Analysis Research Center (SPARC) at Arizona State University. His research focuses on creating sustainable urban futures, addressing social, economic, and environmental issues through innovative data-driven approaches, including GIScience, machine learning, and urban climate modeling. Qunshan leads various research projects concerning urban infrastructure optimization and human-environment interactions, using big data and advanced analytical methods. He actively supervises PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, exploring critical urban analytics and climate-related challenges. In addition to his academic roles, he serves on several editorial boards and has received multiple awards for his contributions to geospatial science and urban research.
