Biography

R. Alan Covey is a Professor in the Liberal Arts at the University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on Archaeology, ethnohistory, and the ancient empires of the Andes, particularly the Inca Empire and early Colonial Peru. Covey's work examines the impact of European expansion on Andean societies, exploring how the arrival of Spaniards in highland Peru during the early 1530s transformed the socio-political landscape of the region. His archaeological surveys and excavations in Peru and Europe aim to construct a deeper understanding of the rise and fall of the Incas and the unique forms of social organization that emerged during the time of colonization. Covey teaches a variety of courses, including introductory archaeological studies and specialized classes on Inca culture.
