Dr. R Konetzka

Biography

R. Tamara Konetzka is the Louis Block Professor at the Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Chicago. She is an internationally recognized expert in health economics, with a scholarly focus on long-term care, Medicaid, Medicare, and post-acute care. Her research examines the incentives created by health care and payment policies, as well as their effects on the quality of care. She has been the principal investigator on numerous significant federal research grants aimed at advancing the understanding of factors that influence nursing home quality. Notably, Konetzka testified before the U.S. Senate regarding COVID-19's impact on nursing homes. She has served as a member of the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) and holds editorial roles, including Editor-in-Chief of Medical Care Research Review. Her educational background includes a PhD in Health Policy Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and she completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Health Economics at the University of Pennsylvania. Her work contributes significantly to important discussions and policy developments regarding health care quality and financing, with several publications in leading medical journals highlighting her research findings.
