Biography

R. Bruce van Dover received his Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Stanford University in 1980 and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering/Engineering Physics from Princeton University in 1974. He joined Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, NJ, where he conducted basic research in superconducting, magnetic, and electronic materials and devices. In 2002, he joined Cornell University as a Professor in Materials Science Engineering, where he fully engages in undergraduate and graduate education. With a highly productive career, he has published over 250 research publications, book chapters, and encyclopedia articles, and holds 69 foreign patents. His work has been impactful, evidenced by 13,000 citations and an h-index of 50. His current research focuses on the synthesis and characterization of thin films, including the development of high-throughput techniques for discovering ionic conductors and fuel cell catalysts. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and a Fellow of the American Physical Society.
