Biography

Raafat Mansour has been a professor at the University of Waterloo since 2000. He has graduated 37 PhD and 32 MASc students and has trained 14 postdoctoral fellows, some of whom hold key positions in academia and industry, with five occupying faculty roles. Professor Mansour founded the Centre for Integrated RF Engineering (CIRFE) at the University of Waterloo, which includes a state-of-the-art clean room and RF test characterization laboratory. He is known for fostering innovation and entrepreneurship among his students, helping them to bring their ideas to market. His research work has led to the co-founding of companies such as AdHawk Microsystems and Integrated Circuit Scanning Probe Instruments (ICSPI-Corp). In recognition of his contributions, he has been honored as a Fellow of the IEEE, the Canadian Academy of Engineering, and the Engineering Institute of Canada. He received the 2014 Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) Engineering Medal for Research and Development and the 2019 IEEE Canada A.G.L. McNaughton Gold Medal Award.
