Biography

Raashid Luqmani is a Professor of Rheumatology at the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences. He graduated from Nottingham University and completed his medical rotation in North Staffordshire. Following this, he underwent further rheumatology training in Southampton as a Research Registrar in Rheumatology, and later pursued an MD focused on synovial biopsies in patients with rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis. In 1994, he was appointed as a consultant in Edinburgh and subsequently moved to Oxford in 2005, assuming his current role as a Professor of Rheumatology in 2011. His research interests lie primarily in vasculitis, where he has published extensively and secured numerous grants. Luqmani is particularly focused on the clinical evaluation of patients with vasculitis, with growing interest in imaging for large vessel vasculitis, exploring potential biomarkers for defining subgroups and improving disease outcomes.
