Rabin Basnet completed his Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering at the Institute of Engineering in Kathmandu, Nepal. He then earned a Master's degree in Renewable Energy Management from the University of Freiburg, Germany, in 2015. Subsequently, he obtained his PhD in solar photovoltaics from the Australian National University (ANU) in October 2020. His research focuses on enhancing the performance and cost-effectiveness of existing solar cell technologies and managing their end-of-life challenges. His primary work involves assessing the quality of silicon wafers for high-efficiency solar cells, innovating doped poly-Si contacts, and developing Si bottom cells for tandem applications. He has been awarded the ACAP Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2023 to improve the passivation quality of doped poly-Si contacts on textured surfaces. Rabin is also involved in teaching and student supervision at ANU and collaborates closely with leading photovoltaic manufacturers, participating in large ARENA-industry co-funded projects. He has presented his research at international conferences and serves as a program committee member.
